Do what you love and you’ll never have to work!
I guess I live by that saying.
Internet marketing has been a hobby of mine for more than 12 years. I can’t say that I have ever found it difficult or unpleasant. After all, it has led me to financial freedom(read more here).
I don’t complain about lack of time, even though I own three businesses.
In addition, I am currently studying at the Latvian Coaches Continuing Education Centre to become Latvia’s first official disc golf coach.
Disc golf has been my passion and sporting addiction for more than three years. During this time I have not only learned to play at a pretty good level, started my own disc golf club, but also decided that I want to teach this wonderful game to others.
I would like to thank Aigar from www.fiziopreces.lv for his physiotherapy services and quality physiotherapy products that allow me to play and train at a high level.
How to become a sports coach in 10 months?
If you are a professional in a sport and want to teach it to others, you should get a category C coaching certificate. There are several institutions in Latvia that offer courses to obtain a category C coaching certificate:
- Latvian Academy of Sport Pedagogy
- Latvian Centre for Continuing Education of Trainers
- Sports Education Agency
- Daugavpils Fitness Training Centre
- University of Liepaja
The 3 stages of the Category C Coach Certificate are:
- Educational qualifications (at least 320 hours of coaching)
- Obtaining an opinion from the relevant sports federation (tests practical skills)
- Passing the certification examination (tests theoretical knowledge)
These courses are not all the same. They vary in length, intensity, price and, of course, the teachers.
I chose the offer of the Latvian Centre for Continuing Education of Trainers because it has the least number of classes per week – two 2.5-hour lectures on Wednesdays. Accordingly, this programme lasts 10 months, while other programmes offer the same certificate in just two months.
The lectures are currently held online, but under normal circumstances they are held in person in Riga, Liepaja and Daugavpils.
What subjects do we learn in the coaching courses?
- Anatomy
- Sport physiology
- Sports medicine
- Sport pedagogy
- Sport psychology
- Fundamentals of sports training theory
- Nutrition for athletes
Of course, we learn these subjects in a rather superficial way, because the lectures for each subject are limited. Coaches are not doctors or psychologists, so I don’t think you need to have a deep knowledge of a particular field to work with students successfully, but you need to refer your students to the right specialists.
What are my goals for this coaching education?
I would like 2022. to spend the summer of 2010 teaching other enthusiasts how to play disc golf. I don’t have financial targets for how much I should earn as a disc golf coach. It’s my hobby and passion and being in the woods and meadows and disc golf courses gives me great pleasure. Besides, the best way to learn something is by teaching it to others, so I have no doubt that I will become an even better player myself by teaching the game to others.
How to turn your hobby into a source of extra income?
I guess this little article is all about how to turn your hobby into a source of income.
I love to play disc golf – I train as a disc golf coach, teach others to play and get paid for it.
WHAT IS DISC GOLF?
Disc golf is an outdoor sport in which the player must throw a special flying disc into a special basket. Why golf? – because, like in traditional golf, the aim is to get to the target, in this case the basket, in as few shots as possible.
Disc golf is played on special disc golf courses, which usually have 18 baskets, less commonly 9. The path to each basket starts from the starting court, but the obstacles on the court – trees, terrain, bodies of water – make the game more interesting. It is not only the power and technique of the throw that is important, but also the strategy, the correct decision in avoiding an obstacle or choosing the trajectory of the throw.
Disc golf has the advantage of being affordable: it can be played at any age, and discs – just like those used by professionals – can be bought for €10-20. You can also rent equipment at disc golf courses, but the magic of the game quickly takes over and it’s not long before you have your first game bag with three, five or even ten different discs!
